  1. When in light of recent developments in Marvel comics I find it nice that your Reed was the one to raise the ethical objections to what Betty was planning. I also feel that by using the chameleon's already made disguises you can avoid the forced feel of the final gift in Beneath the Veil. Still will Betty ever learn to make the masks on her own? Out of curiousity considering Chameleon had masks of both genders does this mean there is a chance that Betty could at some point the future find herself engaging in some "double-dipping"?

  2. Hey Anonymous! You get everywhere! :)

Yeah, count me as one of the many comic fans reading much of Civil War going 'Huh?' every few pages. I like to think it didn't really happen. But then again, I like the post-CW Marvel U, so, I guess I've got to live with it.

Will Betty ever learn to make masks on her own? It's complicated. Right now, no. Long term, yes. Short term... sorta?

Right now, there are plenty of disguises available to her. I like to think of the Chameleon's store as being like the ACME warehouse in Looney Tunes... always accessible and pretty much always stocked with what she wants (within reason...). It's just easier to write that way. The limits on that are common sense. The Chameleon has lots of generic disguises - 'Gwen Stacy' is one. He also has plenty of specific ones. But, he doesn't have a disguise for everyone, ever!

So that deals with 'right now'. In the long term, yes, I imagine Betty will gain those skills. I have some rough ideas for an arc where she could plausibly get trained in disguises, but that's a long, long way off (like, past issue #20).

In the short term, well, without giving too much away... the arc I'm about to start writing (Issue #9 onwards) will probably require Betty to learn some disguise skills to impersonate someone specific... hence the 'sorta'. You might be happy to hear that the situation she's put in will also require her to do some 'double-dipping' (Great phrase in this context!!).

That is, assuming by 'double-dipping' you mean female-to-male masking, as well as female-to-female. :)

I realised when plotting this particular arc that I had that option in the story, and yeah, I think it'll be a lot of fun to write, so it's coming!

Please do let me know if you have other ideas for the series - Steve Zink mentioned the 'Malice' identity for Susan Storm over at Maskingwriter, and that just set off a whole arc for me... so ideas are very welcome.

  3. Sweet, that was actually exactly what I was referring to. I look forward to what comes up next, as for ideas have you thought about introducing Black Cat into your story. I think her more constant personality traits could add some zazz to your already potent mix(pardon my vernacular).

  4. Certainly thought about Black Cat... there aren't many female superheroines or supervillains I haven't thought about introducing in some form.

No immediate plans for her yet, but given her relationship with Spider-MAN, I can see an interesting twist with her meeting a Spider-GIRL... :)
