Another quick update

Hey guys and gals, just wanted to drop in and let you know how things are progressing.

The muse - not that there is such a thing, I'll tell you about it sometime - has swung over to Spider-Girl recently, so I'm now progressing on Issue #12 again. I had a good hard think about what was bothering me about the issue in the shower one morning (Get my best thinking done there - try it) and I came up with a slight twist that's made it more fun to write. Sure, it's entirely gratuitous, and you'll know it when you read it... but believe me, you'll enjoy the issue more with it. Without it, you might as well just read any Spider-Man comic from the last 40 or so years...!

What's better though is that when I sat down to write that little extra scene, I ended up with another additional twist being added in; a far kinkier one. So that's taken a bit more time to incorporate into the story, but I think it's been worth it. I'm laying groundwork here... it'll pay off.

Apart from that... not much to report. Sorry to anyone who hoped I'd be writing something else, but I find it hard to not finish things that are half-done. God, amazing I can even say that, these days...

  1. Heya Ghostly,

I'm one of the silent watchers who read (And enjoy) your stories. The Spider Girl series has been especially enjoyable. Susan Storm has been a delightful addition to the series. One thing that (at least for me) begs a question...

The Peter Parker mask made by John Jameson (Wonderful twist by the way): I can't help but wonder when Betty's going to put that to use.

Also another tidbit this time involving Susan and the Fantastic Four in general... Early on in their timeline the quartet lost their powers (I'm thinking it took place somewhere in the first 50 issues but don't hold me to that) and Reed with his wonderous brilliance created artifical ways to simulate their powers. These kept popping back up in later issues in the form of The Exoskeleton Ben Grimm wore for at least two esperate periods and Reeds arm extendors.. I would have to presume that Susan had a device that would allow her to simulate her powers. The only reason I bring this up is it would make it easier for Betty to stand in for Susan if she too could simulate her powers. Just a nugget of information for thought.

    Keep up the Good work!

  2. Hey Sheyd, thanks for dropping by.

Susan's been a surprisingly handy addition to the series for me... ever since she 'surprised' me with her reactions in Issue #3 (I think) to Betty's secrets, more and more plotlines have just come from her quite easily. So, I don't think she'll be leaving anytime soon. ;)

Your question's a good one... the honest answer is 'I don't know'. I remember revising issue #8 so that the mask got retrieved, as yeah, I wasn't going to let it go to 'waste' (and nor was Betty!!). But so far (as of issue #12) it's not been used. Although that doesn't mean some F2M masking hasn't happened... you'll see soon enough. ;)

The real question is though, what do YOU (and others) want her to do with a mask of Peter's face? You tell me, I'll do my best to accommodate.

Finally thanks for that tip on the FF story... I haven't actually heard of that storyline, and I'll try to track down details. Could be a very interesting crossover for Spider-Girl!

Thanks again for reading, and drop by anytime.

  3. Hmmmmm

Great answers and an interesting return question.
'What do I want to happen with said mask?'

Of course I want to see it used that goes without saying but how to make use of it in a plot worthy manner...

Okay looking at the early career of our mainstream wallcrawler two of his early villains were known to him beyond his masked persona, that was Otto Octavius and Doctor Connors. So perhaps Betty can only get close enough to Doc Ock or the Lizard as Peter. Afterall if they'd already encountered Spider-girl they certainly wouldn't be suspecting Peter Parker to be her. That is of course if these two signature villains remain unchanged from the mainstream versions.

Another possibility is the Scorpion. He was hired by Jonah to figure out the connection between Peter Parker and Spider-man and later as a weapon against him having the man subjected to tests using scorpion venom. The Scorpion (and rightly so) fixated on killing Jonah. Betty could use the Peter mask to stay close to Jonah to protect him from the Scorpion OR use the mask to throw the pre-scorpion off Peter's trail.

Generally being a photographer for the Daily Bugle would be a way for Betty to get into places she might otherwise have a difficulty, especially if she suspects a villain about to strike someplace important.

Just some ideas. All in all I know whatever you decide to do with the mask will be an enjoyable read.

  4. Wow, these are all great ideas Sheyd - great! I really appreciate it.

While I come up with new ideas for Betty's adventures on a fairly regular basis, I can't stress enough how helpful it is to get new perspectives on the same thing. I've already incorporated several people's ideas into upcoming stories and I'm pretty sure some of these could make it in, too. ;)

Come back anytime with more suggestions! :)
